-
Select appropriate interview attire. Dress the part by showing up to the interview in professional clothing and recently shined shoes. Keep hair color and accessories conservative.
-
Time your drive to the interview location so that you arrive 10 minutes early. If you are traveling during rush hour, arrive 30 minutes early and then drive to a nearby coffee shop or grocery store to assure you will hit your 10 minute early deadline.
-
Silence all cell phones and pagers and leave them in an area where they can not be seen. Even a phone on vibrate can be heard and may be distracting to both you and the interviewer.
-
Don’t show up empty-handed. Bring a briefcase, binder or day planner with notepad. Use it as a place to keep those extra resumes and for taking notes. Also, have your predetermined questions written here and pull them out when it is your turn to ask the questions.
-
Be professional to everyone you come in contact with at the interview location. Being rude or unprofessional while waiting for the interviewer may get reported back by a receptionist, security guard or other employee.
-
Answer the interviewer’s questions, staying away from giving any personal information unless asked, and even then, keep it very brief.
-
Use appropriate language throughout the entire interview. Do not use slang or swear, even if the interviewer himself does.
